Clinic Description
Located in Fort Worth, Texas, Federal Medical Center Carswell is an administrative-security prison for female adult inmates in Fort Worth, Texas. They provide primary care, mental health care, and addiction recovery services for incarcerated clients. Their services include medication-assisted treatment (MAT), residential treatment, outpatient treatment, and aftercare services. Specialized services are provided for intravenous drug users, pregnant and postpartum women, clients with HIV/AIDS, speakers of languages other than English, hearing-impaired clients, clients with intellectual or psychiatric disabilities, and clients with co-occurring conditions.
Their MAT services help clients withdraw from alcohol, opioids, and other substances. Licensed physicians can provide counseling and one-on-one support, administering FDA-approved medications as necessary to help ease withdrawal symptoms and enhance client comfort. Some of the medications that might be used during this program include buprenorphine, methadone, naloxone, and naltrexone.
When their medical detox is complete, clients may begin residential or outpatient treatment. The facility’s residential drug abuse program (RDAP) is their most intensive program, where clients live in a separate location away from the general inmate population and engage in half-day programming. Residential and outpatient treatments include individual and group counseling, life skills training, and substance abuse education programs to help clients learn more about their addictions, lower their risk of relapse, and create a foundation for long-term recovery. Clients who require longer-term pharmacotherapy services may enroll in MAT maintenance programs.
All inmates have no-cost access to medical services provided through the Federal Bureau of Prisons. If providers at Federal Medical Center Carswell make a referral to an outside specialist or provider, a co-pay fee may apply. These providers may work with commercial insurance plans, including Aetna, Anthem, United Healthcare, Cigna, Humana, and others. Contact your provider to verify coverage because out-of-network benefits can vary.
