Clinic Description
American Lake VA Medical Center, part of the Puget Sound VA Health Care System offers alcohol and drug rehab services in Tacoma, Washington. The center provides detox, medication-assisted treatment (MAT), inpatient (IP), outpatient (OP), and aftercare programs for veterans and their families. Specialized services are available for seniors, homeless/indigent persons, gender-specific groups, and underserved communities. Referrals are required.
At American Lake VA Medical Center, clients are evaluated and assigned to a care coordinator. Licensed clinicians administer FDA-approved prescriptions, including methadone, buprenorphine/naloxone, naltrexone, acamprosate, disulfiram, topiramate, bupropion, and varenicline to reduce cravings and ease withdrawal symptoms for substance, alcohol, and tobacco use disorder. Clients are supervised during dosing and throughout their treatment to prevent relapse.
In addition to medication management, clients participate in group and individual dual diagnosis approaches to address co-occurring mental and behavioral health disorders. Programs include individual and group counseling, harm reduction education, and access to social services. Acute clients may be eligible for inpatient rehabilitation with accommodations at outside lodges, which includes transportation. Referrals may be given to outside facilities and specialized substance abuse programs.
