Clinic Description

Dr. Owusu Aku, MD is a psychiatry specialist at Life Counseling Center in Jacksonville, Florida who provides behavioral and mental health services for adolescents and adults. She also provides dual diagnosis care, including medication-assisted treatment (MAT), outpatient treatment, and aftercare services, for clients with co-occurring addictions and mental health disorders. Specialized services are available for pregnant and postpartum women and intravenous drug users, and telehealth appointments may be available upon request.

Dr. Aku’s MAT services help clients detox from alcohol, opioids, and other substances under medical supervision. Treatment plans are customized for each client and may include the use of medications including buprenorphine, naltrexone, methadone, and Suboxone to ease withdrawal symptoms and improve client comfort.

Following medical detox, clients may enroll in outpatient programs to learn coping skills, stress management techniques, and relapse prevention strategies to support their long-term recovery. These services include individual and group counseling, addiction education, and peer-based support groups. Clients who require longer-term pharmacotherapy services can access continued MAT maintenance plans.

Dr. Owusu Aku, MD may be able to work with major insurance providers, including Aetna, Humana, Cigna, United Healthcare, Bright Health, BlueCross/BlueShield, and others. Contact your insurance provider to check coverage, as out-of-network benefits can vary.
