Clinic Description

Dr. Cristina Martinez, MD is a physician with the VA New Mexico Healthcare System network, practicing at the Raymond G. Murphy Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Dr. Martinez provides emergency, primary, and behavioral health services for military personnel, veterans, and their families. Available programs include medication-assisted treatment (MAT), crisis intervention, residential treatment, general outpatient treatment, and aftercare programs. Specialized services are available for adolescents, young adults, seniors, members of the LGBTQ+ community, and persons with co-occurring disorders.

Dr. Martinez’s MAT program helps clients detox from alcohol, opioids, and other drugs before beginning other types of addiction recovery treatment. As required, she can administer FDA-approved medications to improve client comfort throughout the medical detox process, alleviating the physical symptoms of withdrawal, reducing cravings, and lowering the risk of relapse. Available medications include methadone, buprenorphine, naloxone, naltrexone, acamprosate, disulfiram, topiramate, bupropion, and varenicline. MAT plans are tailored to each client’s needs.

Residential services are available for clients who require crisis intervention or a higher level of care. Multi-disciplinary providers offer 24-hour services, including therapeutic and educational programming.

Outpatient treatment includes individual and group therapy, addiction education, and relapse-prevention training to help clients work through the underlying causes of their addictions, identify triggers, and learn relapse prevention skills. This may include an array of evidence-based therapies including motivational interviewing and motivation enhancement therapy (MET).

In addition to military benefits, Dr. Cristina Martinez, MD may accept most major insurance plans, such as Aetna, Cigna, BlueCross BlueShield, and Humana. Contact your provider to verify coverage because out of network benefits can vary. Financial assistance is available.
