VA Medical Center/Michael E DeBakey Substance Dependence Treatment Program is an alcohol, drug, opioid, and tobacco rehab in Houston, Texas, that specializes in opioid recovery. At Michael E. DeBakey VA Medical Center, clients undergo a personalized evaluation and receive a custom treatment program. FDA-approved prescriptions, including methadone, buprenorphine/naloxone, and naltrexone injection, are used to reduce chronic pain and ease withdrawal symptoms. Additional medications can include acamprosate, disulfiram, topiramate, nicotine replacement therapy, bupropion, and varenicline for alcohol and tobacco use disorders. Clients are monitored 24/7 and receive education for their rehabilitation. Transportation is available, and parking is free.

In addition to medication-assisted treatment, clients also participate in group and individual counseling, arts and holistic treatment, outdoor and recreational activities, and family therapy. Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), motivational interviewing, and motivational enhancement therapy (MET) are also provided. Social workers, chaplains, and hotlines are also available to help prevent relapse. Long-distance clients may be eligible for free lodging at the Fisher House. Clients may be referred to other VA hospitals and outside treatment centers for specialized substance abuse programs.
