Clinic Description

Located in Baltimore, Maryland, the Johns Hopkins University at JHBMC Behavioral Pharmacology Research Unit studies the effects of psychoactive drugs, offering clinical pharmacology studies and volunteer trials for adults in addiction recovery. Their programs include residential and outpatient treatments featuring medication assisted-treatment (MAT) designed to help researchers better understand drug use and associated behaviors.

On occasion, they invite volunteers with opioid use disorders to participate in certain paid research studies, including ones that analyze the efficacy of certain MAT approaches. These studies can take place in a residential setting at the Johns Hopkins Bayview Campus or on an outpatient basis. The studies examine the use of specific addiction medications and medical devices designed to help lessen the effects of opioid withdrawal.

Clients receive compensation for participating in clinical trials and research studies through the Johns Hopkins University at JHBMC Behavioral Pharmacology Research Unit, and most of their programs do not require payment. However, if, during the study, providers refer clients to additional units within the Johns Hopkins Medicine network, those facilities may be in-network with major commercial insurance providers, including Aetna, Amerigroup, Humana, Cigna, United Healthcare, and BlueCross/BlueShield. Contact your provider to verify your coverage as out of network benefits may vary.
