Clinic Description

The Minneapolis VA Medical Center, located in Minneapolis, Minnesota, provides behavioral health and addiction recovery services for military personnel, veterans, and their families. Their programs include medication-assisted treatment (MAT), inpatient treatment, outpatient treatment, and aftercare support. Dedicated services are available for teenagers, young adults, seniors, members of the LGBTQ+ community, homeless and indigent persons, and clients with co-occurring disorders. Telehealth appointments are available.

The MAT services allow clients to safely detox from opioids, alcohol, and other drugs under medical supervision. As they monitor the withdrawal process, providers may administer methadone, an FDA-approved addiction medication, to reduce clients’ physical pain, minimize cravings, and reduce relapse risk.

In conjunction with MAT, they also offer inpatient and outpatient treatment to help clients learn more about their addiction, identify triggers, and develop healthy coping skills for recovery. Specific treatment plans and levels of care are based on each client’s needs and recovery process. Available services include individual, couples, group, and family counseling, medication management, and peer support groups. Upon completion of treatment, providers can also assist with referrals and help clients connect with other, community-based recovery resources, including additional counseling and rehabilitation services.

In addition to military benefits, the Minneapolis VA Medical Center may also work with most commercial insurance plans, including United Healthcare, Cigna, Humana, BlueCross/BlueShield, and others. Ask your provider to verify your coverage as out-of-network benefits can vary.
