The Buffalo VA Medical Center, part of the VA Western New York Healthcare System, offers alcohol and drug rehab services in Buffalo, New York. The center provides medication-assisted treatment (MAT), inpatient (IP), outpatient (OP), and aftercare services for veterans and their families. Specialized services are available for seniors, the LGBTQ+ community, homeless/indigent persons, and underserved communities.
At the Buffalo VA Medical Center, clients are evaluated and assigned to a care coordinator. Licensed clinicians administer FDA-approved prescriptions, including methadone, buprenorphine/naloxone, naltrexone, acamprosate, disulfiram, topiramate, bupropion, and varenicline to address alcohol, substance, and tobacco use disorder. Clients are supervised during dosing and throughout their treatment to discourage relapse.
In addition to medication management, clients participate in individual and group counseling to build resilience. Clients with acute cases may be eligible for inpatient rehabilitation, and dual diagnosis care and address co-occurring mental and behavioral health disorders. Clients may also receive social services to promote healthy living routines. Referrals may be made to outside facilities for specialized substance abuse programs.
